Send a “Sweet Salute” to Our Troops this Holiday Season

Cinnabon, Inc. is proud to work with Operation Gratitude®, an organization that annually sends 100,000+ care packages filled with snacks, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation to U.S. service members, veterans, and emergency first responders. The organization’s mission is to lift morale and express to our military and their families the appreciation and support of the American people.

Cinnabon® bakeries are helping to send Operation Gratitude care packages this holiday season by collecting donations and personal thank you notes from generous Guests. Cinnabon is also asking its fans to contribute in other ways. Here’s how:

In the comments section below, please take a few moments to write a note for our soldiers and their families. Our goal is to get at least 2,000 comments of thanks but, with your help, we know that we can exceed that goal. Please share this post with your family, friends, and co-workers and help us send a “Sweet Salute” to those who sacrifice to protect us and our country.

This holiday season, your words of appreciation will be shared on the Operation Gratitude blog and delivered electronically to all military families in their database. We truly believe that LIFE NEEDS FROSTING®.

Cinnabon Reaches 1,000th Bakery Milestone

Snack Leader in Bakery-Café Segment Continues Rapid Expansion; 200 New Domestic and International Openings in Development

Atlanta, Ga. – December 11, 2012 – Cinnabon is on a roll. The iconic brand is returning to its roots in Washington to celebrate the opening of its 1,000th bakery this week. In 1985, Cinnabon, Inc. opened the doors of its first bakery in the Sea Tac Mall in Federal Way, a suburb of Seattle, Wash. Now, 27 years later, the company’s 1,000th bakery will open in Vancouver, Wash. at Vancouver Mall.

In addition to growing its network of Flagship and Express bakeries to 1,000 in 2012, the Cinnabon® brand has expanded its footprint to cover 48 states and 50 countries this year. Throughout the remainder of 2012 and into 2013, Cinnabon will continue to grow with 200 new domestic and international openings planned.

“This is an exciting time as we celebrate a major milestone for Cinnabon,” said President Kat Cole. “A 27-year reputation for over-the-top sensory experiences and creating oh-so-worth it indulgent moments for global bakery guests and retail consumers is possible only because of our franchisees, employees, licensees and vendor partners who continue to work tirelessly to make this brand what it is today – one of the world’s greatest food brands.”

Cole concluded, “Cinnabon’s growth has also been fueled by having a flexible franchise model. In addition to our famous Flagship Cinnabon Bakery locations that bake and blend from scratch in high-traffic venues, we have gotten good at being small with Cinnabon Express Micro Bakeries in travel and foodservice outlets like airports and Schlotzsky’s® Deli, and we’ve also gotten good at being bigger with full street-side bakery cafés all over the world. Simultaneously, with the expansion of branded products in grocery, retail and restaurant outlets, Cinnabon is approaching 50,000 global points of distribution across all channels between its franchise, consumer packaged goods and foodservice licensing divisions.”

CBS’s Hit Series “Undercover Boss” Takes Cinnabon President Kat Cole through Journey inside Franchise and Distribution Channels

New Episode of Emmy Award-Winning CBS Reality Series to be broadcast Friday, Nov. 16

ATLANTA, GA (Nov. 12, 2012) – As the leader of Cinnabon, Inc., the maker of World Famous Cinnamon Rolls, Kat Cole is used to seeing people smile while enjoying their indulgent treats. But her experience on the hit CBS series “Undercover Boss” helped her clearly see just how many dedicated and talented employees are helping to propel Cinnabon® as a brand. Cole’s journey will unfold on national television as she takes a thorough look inside Cinnabon Friday, November 16 (8pm/7c) on the CBS Television Network.

“Being with the brand for almost two years, I wanted to go undercover to talk to our employees about what they are dealing with day to day and how the changes our team has made have impacted them, our brand and our guests. This was a unique opportunity to do that without being recognized,” said Cole. “I walked away incredibly proud of our brand and with an even deeper understanding and appreciation for the unsung heroes throughout the Cinnabon system.”

Cole’s decision to participate in “Undercover Boss” fits well with her hands-on leadership style. She regularly visits bakeries around the world, often surprising employees as she rolls up her sleeves to work alongside them on all sides of the business. She became President of the company in 2011 and since then has become known for her intense and collaborative leadership style. Cole wanted to find ways to improve and grow the Cinnabon brand through the experience on “Undercover Boss.” At age 34, Cole is the youngest “boss” to be featured on the show.

She and other Cinnabon leaders will take what Cole learned and continue to build on the experience. Jobs that she participated in during the show include bakery cashier, machine operator, coffee host and bakery manager. As a result of “Undercover Boss,” several company-wide initiatives have been put into place, such as more efforts toward multicultural marketing, engaging employees in local fundraising efforts and a greater emphasis on product sampling.

Each week, the Emmy Award-winning “Undercover Boss,” which is just starting its fourth season, follows a different executive as they leave the comfort of their corner office for an undercover mission to examine the inner workings of their companies. While working alongside their employees, they see the effects their decisions have on others, where the problems lie within their organizations and get an up-close look at both the good and the bad while discovering and rewarding the unsung heroes who make their companies run.

A co-branded Cinnabon® and Carvel® store debuted July 2, 2012 on the busiest street in the city and signifies a milestone – the first-ever U.S. brand to debut in Libya. The location was in the works for more than two years, with the opening delayed due to the Libyan revolution last year.

“The tenacity and courage of our franchise partners and their team show their ultimate commitment to the Cinnabon brand. We are excited to be the first American brand to develop in this market and we know there’s a lot more growth potential in the region,” said Mike Shattuck,President of FOCUS Brands International, which handles overseas expansion for Cinnabon, as well as Carvel Ice Cream, Moe’s Southwest Grill®, Schlotzsky’s® and Auntie Anne’s® Pretzels.

The location was developed by franchise partners Arief and Ahmed Swaidek, brothers who plan to build another Cinnabon location later this year and will develop at least 10 Cinnabon stores in the next five years. The partners also have signed on to bring more Carvel and Moe’s Southwest Grill locations to Libya.

Cinnabon has more than 900 locations in 51 countries. Throughout the remainder of 2012, it projects opening approximately 130 new international bakeries globally with new market launches in Nicaragua, Iraq and Ukraine. The company plans to enter an additional eight new international markets in the next 12 months.

International expansion is a main focus for the brand’s immediate growth. The company has opened 71 Cinnabon locations in Russia in three years, with plans for another 80 over the next five years. Shattuck also said Cinnabon is looking for franchise partners in other North African countries, such as Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco.

“The guests love the overall experience at Cinnabon and they tell us they are enjoying the western flavors and unique hospitality we strive so hard to offer in beautiful surroundings,” said Shattuck.

In addition to the traditional menu items in Libya, the location is also offering a wide variety of locally created sandwiches, salads, and other baked good as well as cakes and pies which are imported from Italy.
